GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina women's golf team is set to host the 2014 Lady Pirate Intercollegiate in Greenville, N.C. on Oct. 13-14 at the par-72, 6,014-yard Greenville Country Club.
The Pirates, who have finished in the top-three of the event five of the last six years, are joined in the 18-team field by Appalachian State, No. 64 Elon, Gardner-Webb, No. 33 Georgia Regents-Augusta, Georgia State, High Point, James Madison, No. 51 Kennesaw State, Longwood, Marshall, No. 44 Middle Tennessee, Old Dominion, Radford, Richmond, Western Kentucky, William & Mary and Winthrop.
Defending individual champion Avery George (Middle Tennessee) will look to become the first two-time champion when she tees off from the 16th hole on Monday. A year ago, she posted a 1-under 215 (75-67-73) finishing three shots ahead of Amanda Steinhagen (Longwood).
Since the event began in 2000, the Pirates have claimed three titles (2000-02), finished second four times and third on three occasions (2004, 2011, 2013).
East Carolina will use a line-up consisting of Lisa Pettersson (No. 1, first hole), Frida Gustafsson Spang (No. 2, first hole), Nicoline Engstroem Skaug (No. 3, second hole), Katie Kirk (No. 4, second hole) and Emily Eng (No. 5, third hole). Playing as individuals for the Pirates are Victoria Allred, Lane Gakeler and Devan Murphy, all of who will be teeing off from the fourth hole.
The two-day 54-hole event will have 36-holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday with a shotgun start beginning at 8:30 a.m. on both days. Pirate fans can catch all the live action by logging onto www.GolfStat.com.
