
Cross Country Heads To Blue Ridge Invitational

GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina men's and women's cross country teams will travel to western North Carolina to compete in Appalachian State University's Blue Ridge Invitational in Boone on Friday, Oct. 17.
Friday's meet will be both teams' final tune-ups before the American Athletic Conference Championships, which will be held at the University of Tulsa on Oct. 31.
The Pirates opened the season Aug. 29 at the Covered Bridge Invitational, as the women's team finished fourth in the 5K race and the men placed eighth on a 6,400-meter course.
Last time out, ECU competed at the Paul Short Invitational in Bethlehem, Pa., on Oct. 4. Brather Cline crushed his previous personal best 8K time by nearly a minute with a time of 25:53 and joined freshman Jorge Montes and sophomore Abel Tecle as one of three runners to complete the course in under 26 minutes.
On the women's side, sophomore Caitlyn Sheva clocked in at a team-best mark of 22:13 in the 6K event, which also topped her previous best by over one minute. Junior Shewit Weldense set a new personal record at 22:34, surpassing her previous mark by one minute and 16 seconds on the exact same course in 2013.
