Pirates Finish Sixth At Pinetree Invitational

KENNESAW, Ga. --- The East Carolina men's golf team finished in sixth-place Tuesday at the 2014 Pinetree Invitational to conclude its fall season. The Pirates carded a 24-over 312 in the final round to finish at 34-over 898.
Tournament host Kennesaw State claimed the team title with a 19-under 845, winning by 30 strokes over second-place Liberty, which carded an 11-over 875. Lipscomb claimed third at 17-over followed by Florida Gulf Coast (+27) and Jacksonville State (+31).
ECU junior Wes Conover finished outside the top-6 for the first time this fall, tying for 12th at 4-over 220 after shooting a 1-over 73 Tuesday. Fellow junior George Kilgore tied for 23rd at 11-over 227 with freshman Tim Conover tying for 30th at 14-over 230. Jacob Hicks finished one stroke behind his rookie teammate tied for 32rd, while redshirt freshman Jackson Spires finished along in 43rd in his first collegiate tournament at 18-over 234.
Kennesaw State's Fredrik Nilehn captured medalist honors with a 54-hole score of 14-under 202, completing the tournament with a final round tally of 4-under 68.
The Pirates' fall season concluded with one victory, two runner-up finishes and one third-place finish in five events. The 2015 spring season opens Feb. 27 at the John Hyatt Invitational in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
