GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina softball team is ready to hit the diamond for the fall season. The Pirates will host USC-Beaufort, Pitt Community College and Louisburg College in a trio of doubleheaders which will take place this weekend and next.
"Having graduated eight student-athletes from last year, the fall season is very important," Head Coach Beth Keylon-Randolph said. "It is very important in terms of giving a younger team experience on the field and building on where we want to go for the spring."
The Pirates and the Sand Sharks of USC-Beaufort will meet Saturday, October 11, at 11 a.m. The first game of the doubleheader will be 10 innings, while the second will be a seven-inning contest.
Following the initial fall series, ECU will welcome Pitt Community College Friday, October 17, at 5 p.m. The series against Bulldogs will also feature a doubleheader where the first game is a 10-inning affair followed by a seven-inning nightcap.
Saturday, October 18, the Pirates will host Louisburg College in another doubleheader which also consists of a 10-inning contest followed by a seven-inning game. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
The Pirates are coming off of a 28-20 season in which they compiled a 14-10 record in their final year in Conference USA. East Carolina now competes in the American Athletic Conference and is returning 16 student-athletes from last year's team. ECU also welcomes seven newcomers including six freshmen and one junior transfer.
Fans are encouraged to come out to ECU Softball Stadium and enjoy the fall softball doubleheaders free of admission.
