
East Carolina Releases 2015 Softball Schedule

GREENVILLE, N.C. - Head East Carolina softball coach Beth Keylon-Randolph announced the team's 2015 schedule Tuesday afternoon. The 2015 campaign marks the Pirates' inaugural season in the American Athletic Conference. The Pirates' schedule includes a total of six tournaments, three of which will be played at the ECU Softball Stadium, and 18 conference games.
East Carolina opens the season with the Pirate Classic beginning February 6 and concluding February 8. In that tournament, ECU will host Oakland, Delaware State, South Carolina and Longwood. The Pirates follow the season opening weekend with a second tournament, the Pirate Clash, which runs from February 13-15 as Bucknell, East Tennessee State, Marshall and Towson come to town. The final home tournament of the year takes place February 20-22 as ECU hosts the Pirate Invitational which consists of Kennesaw State, Lafayette, Virginia Tech and Seton Hall.
The Pirates' first road swing of the season runs from February 27-March 1 as ECU heads to Tampa, Fla., for a tournament hosted by South Florida. Following that tournament, East Carolina heads to Hawai'i to go up against Oregon State, Utah, Longwood and Hawai'i in the Hawai'i Spring Fling Tournament from March 5-10. Before returning to North Carolina, the Pirates will play in their last tournament of the regular season in Norman, Okla., on March 14-15.
With the conclusion of tournament action, the Pirates return to North Carolina to take on Elon on the road Wednesday, March 18. ECU opens conference play at home against UCF for a three-game series March 21-22, before taking on UNC-Wilmington in a mid-week, non-conference doubleheader March 25 in Wilmington, N.C. The Pirates conclude the month of March with a three-game series at Memphis from March 28-29.
The month of April begins with a road trip to Houston as the Pirates and Cougars battle it out April 3 and 4, before ECU returns home to host N.C. State in a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 8, and Tulsa in a conference match up April 11 and 12. The Pirates welcome James Madison for a mid-week, non-conference contest Wednesday, April 15, before heading to South Florida for a three-game series at USF April 18 and 19. East Carolina wraps up the regular season in Greenville, N.C., with a Thursday, April 23 game against North Carolina and a three-game series against UConn April 25 and 26.
The American Athletic Conference Tournament will take place May 7-9 in Orlando, Fla., as UCF will host.
The Pirates won 28 games last season as they posted 16 of those wins at home. East Carolina finished the year with 14 Conference USA wins to finish sixth in league action. ECU went 1-1 in the conference tournament with a 5-1 victory over FIU, before falling to Marshall, 8-7.
East Carolina returns 16 student-athletes from a year ago including five seniors in Gabby Andino (.381, four doubles, seven RBIs), Sarah Christian (17 wins, 2.81 ERA, 16 complete games, 121 strikeouts), Andie Johnson (.235, four hits, two runs), Caroline Umphlett (3.79 ERA, 10 wins, seven complete games, 52 strikeouts) and Abby Wynne (.288, 32 RBIs, 31 runs, five home runs, nine doubles). Additionally, the Pirates welcome seven newcomers made up of half a dozen freshmen and one junior transfer.
