Pirates Shut Down Charlotte To Win Series, 2-0

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Kanisha Anderson went 2-for-2 at the plate and Julia Apostolakos allowed just one hit in seven innings as East Carolina defeated Charlotte, 2-0, to take the series on Saturday afternoon at Max R. Joyner Family Stadium.
Mary-Kathryn Scott added an RBI double for the Pirates (24-17, 8-7 American) who held Charlotte's high-powered offense to just one hit and allowed just one runner in scoring position.
The Pirates got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning as Scott's double scored Macey Ciamillo to put ECU in front 1-0. ECU extended its lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the third on a sac fly from Jenna Krol while the Pirates' pitching and defense continued to keep Charlotte at bay.
ECU had opportunities in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings to increase its lead but double plays ended both innings for the home team.
Apostolakos (12-6) forced three straight ground outs in the top of the seventh to close out the game and give the Pirates the series-clinching win.
