Montes Wins Three Stripe Invitational

CARY, N.C. - Jorge Montes broke the school's 5K record and earned his first-career individual win, as the East Carolina men's cross country team finished in second place at NC State's Three Stripe Invitational on Saturday morning at the WakeMed Cross Country Course.
Just eight days after earning all-conference honors with a 10th-place finish in the 8K race at the American Athletic Conference Championships, Montes turned in a record-breaking time of 14:58.19 to pace the field. Sophomore Abel Tecle finished eighth overall and broke his personal-best time by more than 12 seconds with a mark of 15:28.25.
Junior Pol Solanelles crossed the finish line in 14th place at 15:41.59, followed by redshirt freshman John Crosseley in 22nd at 16:10.30. Dylan Traywick also set a new personal best with a time of 16:20.65 in 25th place.
Duke won the meet with 22 points, followed by ECU (47), High Point (64) and Gardner-Webb (114).
While the men concluded their season, East Carolina's women's cross country team will return to action next Saturday, Nov. 15 at the NCAA Southeast Regional in Louisville, Ky.
