ECU Cross Country Teams Place Third at Wolfpack Invitational

CARY, N.C. - The East Carolina men's and women's cross country teams each earned third-place finishes in their respective 5K races in Friday's Wolfpack/Adidas Invitational at the WakeMed Cross Country Course.
The meet kicked off with the men's race, as redshirt junior Brather Cline broke his personal best in the 5K race by 10 seconds to finish first among ECU runners with a time of 15:34.8. Cline's previous top time at that distance was 15:44.3 at the exact same meet last season.
Sophomore Abel Tecle was just a shade under six seconds behind Cline and claimed 24th place, while redshirt senior Chase Miller clocked in at 15:48.3 and freshman Jorge Montes exactly one second later to finish 25th and 27th overall, respectively.
The men's squad combined for 94 team points, behind NC State (20) and Elon (60). UNC Greensboro (113) finished fourth, followed by UNC Wilmington (133) to round out the top five.
The women were up next, as sophomore Caroline Reiser led the way for the second straight week with a 22nd-place showing in a time of 18:18.1. Redshirt senior Michelle Bailey accomplished the same feat as Cline in the men's race when she crossed the finish line 25tth overall with a new personal-best time of 18:26.9. Bailey's previous mark at the 5K distance was 18:35.3 at the same meet just one year ago
Junior Shewit Weldense was next to finish with a time of 18:48.1, good for 30th overall, before sophomore Caitlyn Sheva stopped the clock at 18:51.4 in 32nd place.
The Pirates amassed 104 team points, behind NC State (21) and Elon (36). UNC Wilmington (141) claimed fourth place, ahead of UNC Greensboro (168) in fifth.
East Carolina will next compete at the prestigious Paul Short Invitational in Bethlehem, Pa., on Oct. 4.
