Pirates Moved Into First-Place At Rees Jones Intercollegiate

DAUFUSKIE ISLAND, S.C. --- The East Carolina men's golf team shot 2-over-par 290 in Monday's second round of the Rees Jones Collegiate Invitational to overtake Kennesaw State for first-place. The Pirates' second round score was the lowest of the day, allowing ECU to take a two-stroke lead over KSU heading into Tuesday's final round.
The Pirates stand in first with a two round score of par 576 (286-290) with Kennesaw State at 2-over 578 (285-293) in second-place. The Owls shot a 5-over 293 Monday, eight stroke more than its opening round 3-under 285, allowing ECU to surpass them. Winthrop carded a 3-over 291 and moved into third-place with a two round total of 10-over 586. Charleston Southern is in fourth at 13-over 589 (293-296) with Campbell rounding out the top-5 at 16-over 592 (296-296).
ECU redshirt junior Al Dickens shot even-par 72 in the second round to maintain a hold of first-place at 8-under-par (64-72=136) one day following his school record breaking score of 8-under 64. Dickens has a three-stroke cushion over Winthrop's Zach Seabolt, who also shot par Monday after carding a 3-under 67 in round one.
ECU junior Wes Conover posted the lowest score of round two with a 4-under-par 68 and moved up three places into third-place at 3-under 141. Conover pared each of the first nine holes and then birdied four holes and pared five others on the back nine for a bogey-free round.
Junior Jacob Hicks rose five spots into 14th with a second round 73 after shooting 2-over 74 on Monday. Hicks stands at 3-over 147 after 36 holes. Junior George Kilgore shot a 4-over 78 to fall into a tied for 36th at 9-over 153, while freshman Tim Conover moved up from 55th to 46th with a 5-over 77 Monday for a two-day total of 14-over 158.
After shooting even-par Sunday, junior Nick Thompson carded an 11-over 83 to drop from fifth-place into a tie for 40th.
ECU is paired with Kennesaw State for Tuesday's final round. Tee times for the Pirates begin at 9:20 a.m. Tim Conover is first off the tee, followed by Kilgore, Hicks, Wes Conover and Dickens in 10-minute intervals.
