ECU Claims Runner-Up Finish At Rees Jones Invitational

DAUFUSKIE ISLAND, S.C. --- The East Carolina men's golf team finished in second place after shooting a 10-over-par 298 in Tuesday's final round of the Seventh Annual Rees Jones Collegiate Invitational at the par-72 Rees Jones Signature Course at Haig Point.
The Pirates (286-290-298=874) entered the day in first place with a two-stroke lead over Kennesaw State, but posted their highest score of the tournament to fall three strokes behind the Owls as the runner up. KSU claimed the tournament title at 7-over 871 (285-293-293) followed by ECU, Winthrop (+23) and Charleston Southern (+33) with UNC Wilmington and Campbell (+43) tied for fifth.
Redshirt junior Al Dickens (-6, 64-72-74=210) finished in second place at 6-under, posting the lowest score and best finish of his career with a tournament-best 16 birdies. Wes Conover (+1, 73-68-76=217) tied for fifth place and finished with the second-most pars of the tournament at 39.
Jacob Hicks shot 11-over 227 (74-73-80) and tied for 21st, while freshman Tim Conover moved up 23 spots on the final day by shooting a 2-under-par 70, climbing from 46th to 23rd with a 54-hole tally of 12-over 228 (81-77-70). George Kilgore carded a final round 6-over 78 to finish tied for 36th at 15-over 231 (75-78-78).
Junior Nick Thompson played as an individual and tied for 48th at 22-over 238 (72-83-83). The Pirates have almost two weeks to prepare for their next tournament, the Wolfpack Intercollegiate on Oct. 6-7 in Raleigh.
