Pirates Tied For Fourth At UCF Challenge

ORLANDO, Fla. - The East Carolina women's golf team opened the Spring part of its schedule Sunday afternoon at the UCF Challenge posting a 1-under 287 and is currently tied for fourth place after 18 holes. The three-day, 54-hole event is being held at the Eagle Creek Golf Club.
Fourteenth-ranked Vanderbilt (277, 11-under) holds a four-shot lead over Iowa State (281, 7-under), while No. 17 Virginia (272, 6-under) is third followed by East Carolina and host UCF in a tie for fourth.
Junior Frida Gustafsson Spang leads the Pirates after posting a 3-under par 69 and sits in a six-way tie for fourth place. Fellow classmate Nicoline Engstroem Skaug (71) is two strokes behind in a tie for 15th. Senior Katie Kirk (73) stands tied for 31st at 1-over, while freshman Lisa Pettersson (74) and junior Lane Gakeler (76) are tied for 44th and 66th.
Sitting atop the leaderboard after 18 holes is Vandy's Kendal Martindale (66, 6-under) who holds a one-shot advantage over Iowa State's Chonlada Chayanun (67) and is two shots in front of Virginia's Elizabeth Szokol (68).
