Pirates Finish Seventh At General Hackler Championships

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. --- The East Carolina men's golf team shot 11-over 299 in the final round of the General Hackler Championships Thursday to finish in seventh-place at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club.
ECU junior Wes Conover, who entered the third round tied for 47th, fired a 4-under 68 in the final round to finish tied for 13th with a 54-hole tally of 3-over 219 (74-77-68). He finished one stroke ahead of his freshman brother, Tim, in 17th-place at 4-over 220 (70-71-79). The younger Conover carded a 7-over 79 to fall 10 places in the final standings.
George Kilgore fired a six-over 78 Tuesday to finish at 8-over 224 (69-77-78) for the tournament, tied for 37th-place. Fellow junior Jacob Hicks carded a 9-over 225 (74-77-74) to place 43rd, while Nick Thompson finished at 20-over 236 (76-79-81) in 73rd position.
North Florida claimed the team title by 12 strokes over second-place NC State. The Ospreys shot 3-under-par 861 during the two-day event, capped by a third round score of 1-under 287. The Wolfpack finished at 9-over 873 to capture runner-up honors.
UNF's Joey Petrino, Winthrop's Zach Seabolt and Iowa State's Nick Voke tied for individual medalist honors at 4-under-par 212.
The Pirates return to the links Saturday, March 14, at the Mission Inn Spectacular in Howey-in-the-Hills. Fla.
