Pettersson In Third At Clover Cup After Opening Round

MESA, Ariz. - East Carolina freshman Lisa Pettersson carded an opening round 2-under par 70 (35-35) and currently sits atop the leaderboard in third place at the Clover Cup. The three-day, 54-hole event is being played at the par-72, 6,184-yard Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Arizona.
Pettersson posted four birdies, two bogeys and 12 pars on the afternoon for a 1-under par on both the front and back nines. Currently she is one stroke off the lead behind Monica Vaughn (Arizona State) and Hannah Wood (Oklahoma), who both fired rounds of 69 (3-under).
Katie Kirk (t23rd) opened the event with a 4-over 76 (40-36), which consisted of three birdies, five bogeys, one double bogey and nine pars. Nicoline Engstroem Skaug (t41st) posted a round of 79 (7-over) with one birdie and 10 pars, while Frida Gustafsson Spang (t61st) carded a 10-over 82 and Lane Gakeler (t71st) posted a 12-over 84.
No. 44 Arizona State leads the 15-team field following a 7-over par 295 opening round and are one-stroke ahead of host and No. 27 Notre Dame (296). Oklahoma is two strokes back of the Sun Devils at 9-over par (297), while FlU (306/18-over) and No. 49 East Carolina (307/19-over) round out the top five.
