
ECU In Fifth At Briar's Creek Invitational

JOHN'S ISLAND, S.C. - The East Carolina women's golf team posted an opening-round 303 and currently sits in fifth place at the Briar's Creek Invitational. The two-day, 54-hole event is being held at the par-72, 6,101-yard Golf Club at Briar's Creek.
Second round action was suspended at 7:30 p.m. (ET) due to darkness with three-to-four holes remaining. Tournament play will continue Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start.
Junior Frida Gustafsson Spang led the Pirates with a 1-over par 73 (37-36) and is tied for eighth place just four shots behind tournament leader Kelly Grassel (69) from Florida.
Classmate Nicoline Engstroem Skaug posted a first round score of 74 (2-over) and is tied for 12th. Freshman Lisa Pettersson carded a 5-over 77 and is tied for 35th, while junior Lane Gakeler (7-over/79) and senior Katie Kirk (10-over/82) are tied for 52nd and 77th.
Miami (Fla.) and Florida are tied for first with rounds of 291 (3-over) and holds an eight-shot lead over Texas Tech (299/11-over). Rounding out the top five are Kent State (301/13-over) and East Carolina (303/15-over).
