Spang Claims Second-Straight Top 15 At Briar's Creek

JOHN'S ISLAND, S.C. - East Carolina junior Frida Gustafsson Spang recorded her second-straight top 15 finish at the Briar's Creek Invitational with a 54-hole scored of 220 (4-over). The two-day, 54-hole event is being held at the par-72, 6,101-yard Golf Club at Briar's Creek.
Spang carded a final round 2-under 70 to finish in a seven-way tie for 14th after recording the second of her two eagles on the week on the par-5 seventh hole. During second round action she also had an eagle on the par-5 10th hole. In all, she posted 7 birdies and registered a 4.83 stroke average on par-5 holes, both ranking among the tournament leaders.
Fellow classmate Nicoline Engstroem Skaug finished tied for 34th after her two-day total of 225 (9-over). Skaug recorded 39 pars in the event to rank fifth out of 93 players.
Freshman Lisa Pettersson took a share of 38th place with a scored of 226 (10-ver) and ranked among the leaders in par-5 scoring (4.17). Rounding out the Pirates roster were senior Katie Kirk (t71/235/119-over) and junior Lane Gakeler (t84/243/27-over).
Florida won the team title in its first-ever appearance at the Briar's Creek Invitational posting a new tournament low three-round score of 866 (292-293-282). Miami (Fla.) finished two strokes behind with a 4-over 868, while Texas Tech (876), Campbell (889) and Illinois (895) rounded out the top 5. ECU posted rounds of 303, 305 and 295 to finish tenth.
Miami's Daniela Darquea claimed individual medalist honors with a tournament-record 207, which included a tournament low round of 65.
The Pirates (69-51) will return to action on Apr. 11th when they travel to Wallace, N.C. to participate in the River Landing Classic.
