Pirates Finish 10th At Slomin Invitational

LAKE WORTH, Fla. --- The East Carolina men's golf team placed 10th out of 20 teams at the Slomin Autism Invitational held at the Fountains Country Club North Course hosted by FAU.
The Pirates finished with a score of 33-over-par 885 during the three-day event. UCF won the tournament by 13 strokes over runner-up Connecticut as the Knight fired a three round total of 11-over-par 863.
Junior Wes Conover led East Carolina by finishing tied for seventh at 2-over 213. After shooting 2-under through the first 36 holes, Conover shot 4-over 75 on Sunday for his sixth top-10 finish of the season in nine events. He led the Pirates with 34 pars during the 54-hole tournament.
Junior Jacob Hicks finished tied for 19th after shooting 6-over 219. Hicks was 2-over entering Sunday's final round, but shot 4-over 75. Fellow junior Nick Thompson also fired a third round 4-over 75 to finish the tournament at 13-over 226. George Kilgore carded a 9-over 80 Sunday to finish with a three round total of 280. Al Dickens finished one stroke behind his teammate at 281.
UCF's Ryan Stovash earned individual medalist honors with a 5-under 213. FAU's Derron Peyton and Florida Gulf Coast's Jake Sherwin tied for second-place at 2-under 215.
East Carolina is back in action on April 11-12 at the Irish Creek Collegiate in Kannapolis, N.C.
