Kirk And Spang Claim Top-15's At Hurricane Invitational

Team Result: East Carolina finishes 7th out of 16 teams (34-over, 886)
Top Finisher: Katie Kirk (5-over/218) and Frida Gustafsson Spang (5-over/218) - Finished tied for 13th

CORAL GABELS, Fla. - East Carolina used a pair of top 15 finishes from Katie Kirk and Frida Gustafsson Spang as well as a career-low round of 68 from Lane Gakeler to finish seventh at the Hurricane Invitational.
During tough conditions, Kirk fired a 4-over 75 and Spang posted a 2-over 73 to finish tied for 13th with scores of 218 (5-over). Gakeler posted her career-best finish (t27th) with a personal-best 221 (8-over) helping ECU (886/34-over) move up three spots in the standings.
"I can't say enough how proud of the round Lane played today," ECU Head Coach Kevin Williams said. "The conditions were tough and we needed her score in a really big way. Katie and Frida continued their solid start to the spring with top 15 finishes."
Rounding out the Pirates roster on the week were Lisa Pettersson (231/18-over) and Nicoline Engstroem Skaug (232/19-over) finished tied for 67th and 72nd.
Eighth-ranked Northwestern claimed the team title finishing with a 7-over 859. Host Miami took second (865), while Iowa State (868), Louisville (873) and Minnesota (878) rounded out the top five.
Daytona State's Tiffany Chan claimed medalist honors as she finished the event one-under-par (212). Chan was the only competitor to finish the tournament under par.
The Pirates (55-35) will be back in action Mar. 13-15 when they travel to Meza, Ariz. to participate in the Clover Cup.
