RALEIGH, N.C. - East Carolina junior Frida Gustafsson Spang carded an opening round 76 (4-over par) during first round action in the 2015 NCAA Women's Golf Raleigh Regional at Lonnie Poole Golf Course on Thursday.
Spang, who is the third Pirate in school history to earn an individual invite to the NCAA Regional joining Adrienne Millican (2004) and Lene Krog (2007), posted a front nine score of 37 that included six pars, two bogeys and a birdie on the par-5, No. 7 hole. On the back nine she carded a 3-over 39 with three bogeys and six pars.
LSU (288, even par) holds a two-shot lead over host NC State (290, 2-over) after first round action. Ohio State (292, 4-over) is third, while Campbell (293, 5-over) and Alabama (294, 6-over) round out the top five.
Madelene Sagstrom (LSU) fired an opening round 4-under par 68 to take a one-shot lead over Rachael Taylor (NC State), who fired a 3-under par 69. Emma Talley (Alabama) and Taylor Totland (Furman) are tied for third with rounds of 70 (2-under), while four golfers are tied for fifth at 1-under par (71).
Second round action begins at 7:30 a.m. (ET) with Spang teeing off from the first hole at 8:15 a.m.
