ECU Women Place Fourth, Men Seventh at Covered Bridge Invite

BOONE, N.C. - The East Carolina cross country team opened the 2015 season at the Covered Bridge Invitational hosted by Appalachian State on Friday. The squad was led by junior Caroline Reiser on the women's side and senior Brather Cline on the men's.
Reiser placed 18th in the women's 5K run with a time of 19:01.91 which is less than a minute off of her personal record time of 18:18.1 which she set in 2013 and again last season at the Wolfpack/Adidas Invitational. The Annapolis, Md., native led the women's team as she paced teammates Grace Sullivan, Caitlyn Sheva, Cayla Rodney, Victoria Cooke, Sydney Teague, Kayla Fisher, Morgan Anderson, Maura McDonnell, Samantha Teague, Julia Brown and Rachel Rice.
The dozen women totaled 112 points and came in fourth in the invite. Florida State won the women's side with 29 points, while Florida placed second with 42 points. Host, Appalachian State secured the number three spot with 54 points and VMI placed fifth with 161 points.
On the men's side, Cline paced the Pirates in the 6400-meter run with a time of 21:14.90 en route to a 28th-place finish. Coming in after Cline was freshman Nick Ciaccia who placed 39th after running the course in 21:38.65. Following their teammates were Corbin Boyles, Stefano Migliorati and C.J. Buck who rounded out the men's finishers.
East Carolina's men's team turned in a seventh place finish after accumulating 179 points. The Pirates finished behind Florida (32 points), Appalachian State (60 points), Florida State (60 points), VMI (100 points), Mars Hill (130 points) and King University (176 points). Lees-McRae finished eighth with 216 points.
The Pirates have two weeks to prepare for their home meet, the ECU Pirates Invitational, on Friday, Sept. 18. The meet will be held at Lake Kristi in Grimesland, N.C.
