Pirates Move Into Tie For Seventh At Hurricane Invitational

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The East Carolina women's golf team moved into a tie for seventh place Tuesday after carding a second round score of 291 (7-over) at the Hurricane Invitational. The three-day event is being held at the par 71, 6,061-yard Biltmore Golf Course.
Senior Frida Gustafsson Spang (142) carded her second-straight round of 71 (even par) and moved one slot in the standings into a seven-way tie for 10th place. Spang recorded three birdies and a bogey on her front nine for a 2-under 33, but dropped back to even par on the day following three birdies and five bogies on her back nine (38, 2-over).
Fellow upperclassman Nicoline Engstroem Skaug (146, 4-over) moved up eight spots into a tie for 27th after posting a 1-over 72 during second round action. The Oslo, Norway native tallied five birdies and seven pars to go along with six bogies.
Freshman Kate Law (147, 5-over) also carded a second round score of 72 (1-over) jumping 10 spots into a tied for 35th. Law shot a 36 (1-over) on her front nine and finished the back nine with an even par 35, which consisted of one birdie, one bogey and seven pars.
Sophomore Lisa Pettersson (151, 9-over) and freshman Catherine Ashworth (155, 13-over) round out the Pirates roster sitting in a tie for 59th and 75th.
Seventh-ranked Northwester (552, 16-under) increased its lead over No. 16 Iowa State (567, 1-under) and holds a commanding 15 shot lead heading into final round action Wednesday. Tulane, who is ranked No. 36, is third sitting eight strokes behind the Cyclones at 575 (7-over). Rounding out the top five are USF and No. 43 Miami (Fla.) who are both tied for fourth at 577 (9-over).
Northwestern's Hannah Kim (135, 7-under) holds a three-shot lead over teammate Kacie Komoto, Baylor's Laura Lonardi and Tulane's Emily Penttila - all three are tied for second at 138 (4-under).
Final round action gets underway Wednesday morning at 8 a.m. (EST) with a shotgun start.
