Spang Repeats As American Golfer-Of-The-Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - East Carolina senior Frida Gustafsson Spang has been named The American Women's Golfer-of-the-Week for the second consecutive week and third time this spring according to an announcement by the league office Wednesday afternoon.
The Sweden native recorded her record-breaking sixth career individual title surpassing Adrienne Millican's (2002-05) mark (five) that stood for a decade. Spang posted an 8-under par 208 (73-67-68) en route to her lowest 54-hole total of the season at the Briar's Creek Invitational. The win was also her third of the season, which set a new single-season mark.
Spang, who entered final round action in third, notched six birdies, two bogies and 10 pars for a final round score of 68. During the two-day event, she stood among the tournament leaders (top 10) in par-3 scoring (t2nd/2.83), par-4 scoring (t6th/3.97), par-5 scoring (t8th/4.58) and total birdies (t3rd/13), while finishing with 36 pars.
Currently ranked No. 8 nationally by Golfstat - the highest individual ranking ever by an ECU women's golfer, Spang owns a 71.71 stroke average, which ranks first on the single-season charts. Including her three wins, she has four top 2 finishes, five top 5's, six top 10's and seven top 20's in eight events this season. In 24 rounds, Spang has shot 73 or better 20 times and has carded rounds of sub-70 on seven occasions.
For her career, she boasts a 73.31 stroke average, which ranks first all-time at ECU. To go along with her six tournament wins, she also has 10 top 5's, 17 top 10's and 29 top 20 finishes.
The weekly honor is her third in the American and sixth of her career (three in Conference USA). Back in September of 2014, Spang was named AAC Golfer-of-the-Month prior to taking home 2015 First-Team American All-Conference honors.
No. 25 ECU (96-22-2) will return to action on April 1 when it participates in the Bryan National Collegiate, which will be held at the Bryan Creek Golf Club in Greensboro, N.C.
