Skaug In First At Bryan National Collegiate After 18 Holes

BROWNS SUMMITT, N.C. - East Carolina senior Nicoline Engstroem Skaug carded an opening round 2-under par 70 and currently leads the 19th annual Bryan National Collegiate after 18 holes. The three-day event is being held at the par-72 Bryan Park Champions Course.
Skaug posted a front nine score of 3-under (33) after registering four birdies, but gave a stroke back on the back nine with a 1-over par (37). Fellow senior Frida Gustafsson Spang, who entered this weekend's action ranked No. 8 nationally by Golfstat, is tied for 22nd with a 3-over par 75 (38-37).
Rounding out ECU's roster are freshmen Kate Law (42-35) and Catherine Ashworth (39-39) who are tied for 33rd after rounds of 77 (5-over), while sophomore Lisa Pettersson (39-42) is tied for 68th at 9-over (81). Senior Lane Gakeler (44-48) is 84th with a score of 92 (20-over).
Defending tournament champion No. 20 Virginia (289) holds the first round lead after shooting 1-over on Friday. No. 30 Notre Dame (297) and No. 38 South Carolina (297) are tied for second at 9-over, while No. 49 Wake Forest (298) and No. 37 (298) Miami are a shot back in fourth at 10-over. Twenty-eighth ranked East Carolina (299) and No. 21 Florida State (299) both sit in a tie for sixth at 11-over. The tournament features 15 teams, including 10 ranked in the national top 50.
The Bryan National Collegiate continues Saturday and runs through Sunday at Bryan Park.
