December 01, 2017 | Men's Basketball
GREENVILLE, N.C. --- The ECU men's basketball team looks to return to the .500 mark Saturday as it host Delaware State inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum at 5 p.m. following the women's game between the Pirates and Norfolk State.
The Pirates moved back within a game of .500 and snapped a two-game losing streak by defeating UNCW Thursday night, 93-88 in overtime. Senior B.J. Tyson poured in a career-high 30 points and junior Isaac Fleming added 21 to lead the come from behind victory. ECU rallied from a 10-0 deficit to take a 48-42 halftime lead.
Tyson made 1-of-2 free throws with five seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime. ECU outscored the Seahawks by five in the extra period to improve to 20-13 all-time at home against their rivals to the south.
"There is a lot more character in that locker room than people realize." ECU interim Head Coach Michael Perry said. "They're very resilient, they bent, but don't break. Now they have to continue to believe in themselves and this goes a long way in helping them solidify that type of attitude and character."

The Hornets have given up 81 or more points in each of their road games, while ECU has scored over 80 in each of its last two games.
"We wanted to play faster," Perry said following the win over UNCW. "We wanted to get out in transition. We don't want to run a lot of plays and set the action up. We want to play with a lot of flow and a lot of speed."
Tyson (16.7 ppg) and Fleming (13.3 ppg) rank one and two one the team in scoring with Kentrell Barkley coming in third with 12.6 points per game.
Kobe Gantz, who has missed the last two games due to a perceived knee injury, leads Delaware State with 13.5 points per game and is second in rebounding with 5.2. Simon Okolue leads the Hornets with 6.4 rebounds per game and is second with 9.8 points per game.
