March 04, 2017 | Softball

Team Records: East Carolina: (11-8) | Portland State: (1-12) | Pacific: (8-9)
Â
The Rundown: Game One
ECU fell behind 3-0 early as Portland State rapped out four hits in the top of the first, but the Pirates exploded for nine unanswered runs to run away with the win.
Â
Redshirt freshman infielder Tate McClellan collected two hits, two runs scored and four RBI while redshirt junior catcher Alex Mycek continued a stellar offensive weekend with two hits and three RBI. Additionally, sophomore utility player Morgan Halo drew three walks and scored two runs. Korina Kreug went 3-for-3 and drove in a run to pace the Vikings.
Â
Freshman RHP Megan Mills (2-0) picked up the win in relief, throwing 2.2 innings and allowing just one run on three hits. Emma Detamore (0-6) was touched up for 11 runs (nine earned) on seven hits as she walked five batters and struck out just one.
Â
The Decisive Inning
With Portland State enjoying a 3-0 advantage in the second inning, senior outfielder Ali Ramirez was hit by a pitch to begin the home half. Halo then walked before junior infielder Karlie Smith poked a RBI double to left field that scored Ramirez. Later, with two outs on the board, senior outfielder Kacie Oshiro ripped a double to left, scoring two runs and knotting the score at three. Following a walk drawn by junior infielder Meredith Burroughs, Mycek clubbed a three-run home run to left field – putting East Carolina in the lead for good at 6-3.
Â
Statistics of the Game
ECU did a load of damage with two outs on the board, recording 12 of its 16 RBI in that situation. The Pirates were also 8-for-13 with runners in scoring position.
Â
The Rundown: Game Two
East Carolina could not solve Pacific ace Hailey Reed, who produced her second complete game shutout of the weekend to hand the Pirates their first loss of the tournament.
Ramirez and Burroughs notched the only two ECU hits while Mycek drew a pair of walks. Reed and Samantha Owen contributed two-hit performances to complement a three-RBI effort by the Tigers' Sydney Lahners.
Â
Senior RHP Lydia Ritchie (7-5) went the distance, giving up just one earned run while walking three and striking out four. Reed (3-1) scattered two hits, walked four batters and fanned four.
Â
The Decisive Inning
With her team holding a slim 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth, Owen doubled to lead off the frame. An error at first base then opened the door for Pacific to score six runs, including a three-run home run by Lahners, to cap the scoring as neither team produced a score for the remainder of the contest.
Â
Statistics of the Game
The Tigers were perfect (3-for-3) with a runner at third and less than two outs. ECU was just 1-for-9 with runners on base. Â
