
Gameday: ECU Hosts Pirate Invitational Friday At Overton’s Lake Kristi

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The ECU cross country program welcomes 11 teams to Greenville Friday for its annual Pirate Invitational at Overton's Lake Kristi. The event kicks off at 4:45 p.m. with the women's 6K and admission is free for all fans. The men's 8K race is slated for 5:20 p.m.

Elizabeth City State, St. Augustine's, Barton, UNC Asheville, Duke, Elon, Western Carolina, Norfolk State, Hampton, Virginia State and NC State are all scheduled to compete along with ECU.

The Pirates placed second in both the men's and women's team races last season while claiming both individual titles. Senior Grace Sullivan is back to defend her crown after running a 6K time of 20:37 last year.

ECU participated in the Paul Short Run Sept. 29 as Sullivan claimed seventh place overall with a 6K time of 20:46. Freshman Anna Bristle also finished in the top 50, crossing the finish line in 21:42 for 46th place.

On the men's side, it was freshman Ethan Hageman who led the way with an 8K time of 25:33 and an 87th-place finish while senior Alex Boseman took 97th in a time of 25:36.

The men placed 26th as a team while the women ended up in 28th.

The Pirate Invitational is the final tuneup before the American Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships scheduled for Oct. 25 in New Orleans, La.
