
Pirates Head To ITA Carolina Regionals

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Three players from the ECU women's tennis team will travel to Chapel Hill this weekend to take part in the ITA Carolina Regional Championships, hosted by the University of North Carolina.

ECU will have three players taking part in singles competition and one tandem playing in the doubles draw.

In singles, Alisa Diercksen and Nastja Rettich will open play on Thursday in the singles qualifying draw, while Lisa Hofbauer will start on Friday in the singles main draw. Both Diercksen and Rettich are 2-1 this fall, as all theee matches for each came at the Battle at the Creek Invite. Hofbauer will be playing her first singles matches of the fall after competing in doubles at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships. Hofbauer is coming off a 2018 season that saw her finish 18-8 in singles.

At the 2017 edition of the regional championships, Diercksen, Rattich and Hofbauer all won advanced from the singles qualifying draw to the main draw with a pair of victories. Hofbauer was the No. 14 seed in that qualifying draw.

The tandem of Diercksen and Rettich will try to continue their undefeated start to the fall after going 3-0 together at the Battle at the Creek Invite. Diercksen and Rettich had not played together before this fall season.

Thursday's matches will begin at 9:00 a.m., with Rettich scheduled to take on Clemson's Laura Marti and Diercksen matched with Wake Forest's Joanna Zalewski.
