ECU Set For AAC Cross Country Championships
October 24, 2018 | Cross Country
GREENVILLE, N.C. – The ECU cross country program will compete in the American Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships Thursday morning in New Orleans at the Golf Club at Audubon Park.
Â
The meet has been moved up to 9 a.m. ET due to the threat of inclement weather in the area. The women's race will take place first followed by the men at 9:50 a.m.
Â
Senior Grace Sullivan placed sixth in last year's American Championship, earning a spot on the all-conference list. Sullivan has paced ECU in two meets this season. She won the Carolina Challenge in 17:08 to start the year and led the Pirates to a seventh-place finish at the Paul Short Run. ECU has only run three times this season, but had strong showings at the Carolina Challenge and Pirate Invitational, earning its first regional ranking since 2013.
Â
The Pirate men also ran three times this season and senior Nick Ciaccia won the men's individual title at the Pirate Invitational to wrap up the regular season. It was Ciaccia's second title of the season, as he and freshman Ethan Hageman guided a group of nine ECU runners to top 20 finishes on the way to winning the Carolina Challenge in the Pirates' season opener. Ciaccia was an all-conference runner last year, taking the 14th place.
Â
The races will feature 240 athletes from the league's 12 schools. The championships can be viewed live on Facebook via the American Digital Network.
