October 31, 2018 | Men's Tennis
GREENVILLE, N.C. – After two weekends without any matches, the ECU men's tennis team returns to the courts for the final tournament of the fall as the Pirates take part in the UNCW Fall Hidden Dual.
Â
"This is a great way for us to finish our fall tournament slate," said head coach Shawn Heinchon. "Everyone will get to play singles and doubles everyday, which is perfect way for all of our guys to get some valuable match experience. We will get to play against several teams that have a very good chance to win their respective conferences this year, which should be a good test for us."
Â
ECU will send seven players to Wilmington this weekend. Leading the Pirates this fall has been freshman Diogo Marques, who is a team-high 8-4 so far. He is coming off a 4-1 weekend at the ITA Regional championships. Wisse Jonker is second on the team with a 5-4 record. Jonker went 4-0 at the Spider Tennis Invite earlier this season to win an individual flight title.
Â
Will Bissett, Simon Labbe and Javier Renones have all racked up four wins during the fall. Bissett earned an individual title at the USC Fall Invite to open the season. Austin Allen and Ronny Georgi round out the Pirate contigent.
Â
In doubles, ECU has used five pairings this fall. Labbe and Renones have been the most successful, going 4-1 and winning a flight title at the Spider Invite. Jonker has paired with both Renones and Jonker, with each tandem going 1-1, as has the duo of Georgi and Labbe.
Â
The UNCW Fall Hidden Dual gets underway on Friday, Nov. 2 and runs through Sunday, Nov. 4.
