Pirate Lacrosse Adds Eight Signings

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Before the start of the second season in program history, the ECU women's lacrosse team announced the signing of eight student-athletes who will join the program for the 2019-2020 academic year.

"I am very excited and proud to welcome the next recruiting class of ECU women's lacrosse," said head coach Amanda Barnes Moore. "This class will be one of our last classes that verbally committed without ever having met a team on campus, and as such, has already illustrated faith and loyalty, true characteristics of a Pirate. Our class combines some of the best players not only in North Carolina but top talent from up and down the east coast in every position category. I am confident they will contribute positively to our team on and off the field."

Caroline Kimel – Attack – Cardinal Gibbons High School (Durham, N.C.)

Already a three-time state champion at Cardinal Gibbons High School, Kimel has already racked up 173 points on 64 goals and 109 assists during her prep career. She has also scooped up 85 ground balls. The Durham, N.C. native earned the Coaches Award after her junior season and was the team's Offensive MVP after her sophomore campaign. Kimel earned the All-Crusader Award after her freshman season as well.

Ellie Bromley – Midfield – Apex High School (Cary, N.C.)

A Cary, N.C., native, Bromley has helped Apex to three consecutive conference championships. She is coming off a junior season that saw her collect a bevy of honors, including being named the South Wake Athletic Conference Player of the Year as well as being named to the News & Observer All-Metro team and a US Lacrosse All-American for the second consecutive year. Bromley has 279 career points on 206 goals and 73 assists and is the second leading scorer in Apex history.

Flynn Reed – Attack – East Chapel Hill High School (Chapel Hill, N.C.)

Arriving from East Chapel Hill High School is Flynn Reed. During her prep career, Reed has collected 192 points and 70 ground balls, including 70 goals, 22 assists and 43 ground balls during her junior season. She has made the All-Conference team the past two seasons as well as being named All-Metro in 2018 and earning a spot on the Brine North Carolina National Lacrosse team in 2017. She was named the Rookie of the Year after her freshman season.

Ashley Vernon – Goalkeeper – Medford, N.J. (Shawnee High School)

Ashley Vernon arrives in Greenville from Medford, N.J., where she competed for Shawnee. Vernon is coming off a junior season that saw her lead the conference in saves, save percentage and goals against and was named First-Team All-South Jersey and South Jersey Goalie of the Year. She was also First-Team All-Olympic Conference, First-Team All-Burlington County, First-Team All-Courier Post, and an Academic All-American. With 362 career saves, Vernon will head into her senior campaign looking to break Shawnee's all-time saves record.

Paige DeMutis – Attack – Phoenixville, Pa. (Villa Maria Academy)

Paige DeMutis joins the Pirates after helping Villa Maria Academy to the 2018 PIAA state championship. DeMutis had 36 goals and 23 assists during her junior campaign, including two goals and two assists in the state championship game. Overall in her prep career, the Phoenixville, Pa., native has 71 goals and 59 assists with her senior season yet to come.

Payton Barr – Midfield/Defense – Logan Township, N.J. (Paul VI High School)

Payton Barr comes to Greenville from Logan Township in New Jersey where she represents Paul Vi High School. In all three of her completed high school seasons, Barr has earned Second-Team All-Conference honors, with a chance to add more honors during her senior campaign.

Anna Joseph – Defense – Abington, Pa. (Abington High School)

Anna Joseph arrives from Abington, Pa., and will help bolster the Pirate defense. Joseph is coming off a junior season that saw her average three caused turnovers per game while scooping up 39 ground balls. She helped Abington finish as the 2017 League Champions and has served as team captain.

Jacqui Cumings – Midfield – Mount Sinai, N.Y. (Mt. Sinai High School)

Jacqui Cumings comes to Greenville from Mt. Sinai, N.Y. Cumings has helped lead Mt. Sinai to a pair of titles, winning the 2017 State Championship followed by the 2018 County Championships. Along with her prowess on the lacrosse field, Cumings has also competed on the volleyball court and on the indoor track and field team.

The Pirates begin the 2019 season on Feb. 8 against Winthrop in Johnson Stadium.
