Pirates Announce 2019 Lacrosse Schedule
November 07, 2018 | Lacrosse
GREENVILLE, N.C. – ECU Head Women's Lacrosse Coach Amanda Barnes Moore announced the Pirates' 2019 schedule on Wednesday afternoon. ECU, which will join the American Athletic Conference for the conference's first women's lacrosse season, has 17 games on the schedule, including nine at home in Johnson Stadium.
Â
"We've got a great mix of opponents in our schedule this season and look forward to competing in the first year of the American Athletic Conference," said head coach Amanda Barnes Moore.  "It is sure to be a highly competitive conference moving forward and it will certainly test our youthful squad. We were fortunate to have had some experience playing some of our conference opponents last season in our inaugural year. I think that experience will help us as we get in to conference play, where the games are really going to matter for postseason implications."
Â
After playing their first season in program history as an independent, ECU will join the AAC for the inaugural women's lacrosse season. In women's lacrosse, the AAC consists of ECU, Cincinnati, Connecticut, Temple, Vanderbilt and the University of Florida.
Â
The Pirates will open with a pair of home games, taking on Winthrop (Feb. 8) and Gardner-Webb (Feb. 10) in Johnson Stadium. February will close with three straight road games. First up will be a trip down the road to Chapel Hill to take on North Carolina on Feb. 17. ECU will then travel to take on George Washington on Feb. 22 followed by a matchup at Delaware State on Feb. 24.
Â
March starts with a home game against St. Francis (March 3) before ECU travels to Liberty (March 6). Vermont comes to Johnson Stadium on March 10 before the Pirates battle Old Dominion on March 15 in Norfolk, Va., and then Longwood on March 23 in Farmville, Va. ECU will play Campbell at home on March 27, in a final tune-up before the start of conference play. Â
Â
The Pirates play their first two AAC matches at home. First up will be a game against Vanderbilt on March 31, before battling Cincinnati on March 6. ECU will finish its non-conference schedule by hosting Duke on April 9.
Â
The final two road trips of the regular season has ECU first heading south and then to the north. First, ECU makes the trip down to Gainseville, Fla., to take on Florida on April 13. The Pirares will head north to Philadelphia, Pa., to meet Temple on April 20.
Â
The regular season comes to an end on April 27, with ECU playing host to UConn.
Â
The inaugural AAC women's lacrosse tournament will take place on May 2 and May 4.
