
Pirates Pick up Non-Conference Win Over In-State Foe

Charlotte, N.C. --- The ECU Women's tennis team (12-6, 1-3) defeated the Charlotte 49ers (5-10, 0-2) 4-2 in a non-conference meeting on Monday afternoon. ECU improves to 11-3 in non-conference action this season.

The Pirates and 49ers battled in doubles play to begin the match. Charlotte would secure the doubles point with wins at the top two spots.

In singles play, #59 Celia Ruiz quickly reclaimed the Pirates first point with a 6-2, 6-0 score over Charlotte's No. 1 Tai Martin. Ruiz has now won four-consecutive singles matches and improves to 11-3 overall.

Nastja Rettich improved her individual season record to 12-3 with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Emma Scott of Charlotte at the No. 3 spot.

At the five spot in the lineup for ECU, Alisa Diercksen defeated Pierina Imparato 6-1, 6-4 to secure her team-best sixth-straight singles victory.
