GREENVILLE, N.C.  – After claiming its first American Athletic Conference victory of the season last weekend at home, the ECU softball team heads west to Oklahoma for its first league road series against the defending AAC champion Tulsa Golden Hurricane. The teams will match up in single contests March 29-31 at the Collins Family Softball Complex.

The Pirates (15-18, 1-2 AAC) hosted Houston last weekend in Greenville to kick off conference play and won the series opener 3-2 on a walkoff home run by redshirt senior catcher Alex Mycek before dropping two games the next day to conclude the weekend. Tulsa hit the road for three games at UCF and was swept by the Golden Knights in a trio of one-run contests.

ECU is hitting .238 as a team with 30 doubles, two triples and 27 home runs. Redshirt sophomore infielder Tate McClellan paces the squad with a .307 batting average and leads the team in doubles (eight) and is second in home runs (eight). Senior infielder Meredith Burroughs has hit 10 home runs and owns a .611 slugging percentage.

In the circle, the Pirates sport a 3.22 earned run average and have used four pitchers this season. Freshman RHP Erin Poepping has a tossed a team-high 100.1 innings and owns a 3.07 ERA with 62 strikeouts. She has thrown four complete games. Redshirt junior Ashley Cruise has been effective in relief with a 1.94 ERA in 18 innings of work.

About Tulsa
The Golden Hurricane enter the weekend with a 19-14 overall record and 0-3 AAC mark. Tulsa is hitting .277 as a team with 41 doubles, nine triples and 18 home runs. Shelby Escotado is batting .407 and is one of four Golden Hurricane hitters with batting averages of .344 or better. Emily Watson has been the stalwart in the circle for a number of seasons and she has compiled an 11-6 record with a 1.74 ERA in 108.2 innings pitched this year. Watson has struck out 143 batters while issuing just 34 walks. Samantha Pochop has started 11 games and is 6-5 with a 2.98 ERA.

The Series
Tulsa leads the all-time series with ECU 25-11 and has won the last 10 meetings. The Pirates have not defeated the Golden Hurricane since joining the American Athletic Conference prior to the 2015 campaign. Tulsa swept the three-game set in Greenville last season.
