HONOLULU, Hawai'i – The ECU softball team is set for its second round of games in Hawai'i as it takes on Longwood, JMU, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, BYU and the host Rainbow Wahine in the Spring Fling Tournament on the campus of the University of Hawai'i.
The Pirates (6-14 overall) were unable to secure a victory in the Aloha Tournament last weekend, but fell by three runs or less in four the five contests – including a 6-4 setback to then No. 15 California.
ECU is batting .209 as a team with 17 doubles, a triple and seven home runs. Freshman outfielder Tyler King leads the way with a .300 batting average and leads the squad in hits (21) and runs scored (11). Senior infielder Meredith Burroughs, who has notched a team-best four home runs, has reached base safely in six-straight games.
In the circle, the Pirate pitching staff owns a collective 3.12 earned run average. Freshman RHP Erin Poepping, who limited UTEP to four hits and one run Sunday, has thrown the most innings for ECU at 63.2 and has tallied the most strikeouts (36). Junior Mary Williams sports a 1.83 ERA and 14 strikeouts in 15.1 innings of work.
