
Women’s Tennis Secures Road AAC Win

Storrs, Conn. --- The ECU Women's tennis team battled back to defeat UConn on the road Friday afternoon, 4-2.

After a short rain delay, the Pirates fell in a pair of tightly scored doubles matches to begin the match. The Purple and Gold rebounded with four wins in singles competition. Lisa Hofbauer helped turn the table with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over the Huskies No. 2 player, Jacquelyn Fitz-Randolph. Hofbauer is now in a three-way tie for the most wins on the season with Nastja Rettich and Celia Ruiz, each holding 13 victories in singles competition

No. 69 Ruiz outlasted UConn's top solo competitor, Yelyzaveta Pletnyeva, 6-4, 6-3 to tie the score at 2-2. Ruiz improves to 4-1 in American Athletic Conference play. At the fifth position in the lineup ECU's Annija Veinsteina knocked off Zaina Zaki 6-1, 6-3. Hsia Ho Chiao secured her 10th win of the year and clinched the team's victory with a 7-5, 6-2 win over UConn's Cassie Chung.
