
Women’s Tennis Wins Fifth-Straight to Close Regular Season

Storrs, Conn. --- The ECU Women's tennis team clinched a 4-3 win over Cincinnati (10-9, 1-3) on Saturday afternoon at the UConn Tennis Courts. The Pirates finish the regular season with a 17-8 overall and 3-5 American Athletic Conference record. Â

ECU (17-8, 3-5) got things rolling early in the final match of the regular season with a pair of wins in doubles play. ECU's top-duo, on Saturday, Alisa Diercksen and Lisa Hofbauer defeated the Bearcat's top-pair of Ioana Guna and Carolina Morton, 6-2. Celia Ruiz and Annija Veinsteina secured the doubles point with a 6-4 win at the No. 3 spot of the lineup.

Hsia Ho Chiao kept the momentum going for the Pirates' with her fourth-straight win in singles competition, knocking off Amanda Huser, 6-2, 6-1. Veinsteina, at the No. 5 position, defeated Cincinnati's Anna Philp 6-4, 6-1.

After three-consecutive wins by the Bearcats, No. 69 Celia Ruiz clinched the match win with a hard-fought 6-1, 5-7, 6-3 win at the top solo spot. The win gives Ruiz her seventh in a row and a team-best 14th on the season.
