"Real proud of the team finishing tied for second at the American Championships. Houston is a Top 25 team for a reason and played an unbelievable round today. Proud of our effort and coming back from fourth place and battling to get into the top two. Dorthea played great today, especially down the stretch birding the last three holes to get into the playoff, which unfortunately she lost. Now we are excited to see where we will end up for a Regional next week when the tournament bracket is announced."
Â
Dorthea Forbrigd (211) finished the event tied for first with Wichita State's Taryn Torgerson but lost in a playoff hole to finish as the 2018 runner-up. The sophomore, who tied her career-low round with a 67 on the day, recorded her sixth Top 10 finish of the season and it was her second first place finish that resulted in a playoff hole – other was at the Pirate Collegiate Classic where she defeated teammate Kate Law for her first collegiate win.
Â
Junior Carley Cox posted a final score of 222 (76-76-70) finishing 11th which was her sixth Top 20 placement of the year. Freshman Kathryn Carson also tallied a Top 15 finish after her final round 76 for a three-day score of 224, which was her sixth Top 20 of the year. Rounding out the Pirates roster were senior Lisa Pettersson (t25/228) and sophomore Catherine Ashworth (44th/243).
Â
No. 23 Houston (870) won its second-straight team title by 14 strokes over ECU (884) and UCF (884). The Cougars fired the low round of the event an 11-under par 277, while the Pirates had the second-lowest round of the day. Rounding out the Top 5 were Memphis (885) and Wichita State (905).
