Women's Tennis Battles Back to Defeat Elon

Greenville, N.C. --- The ECU Women's tennis team (13-8, 1-5) defeated Elon (12-10) 4-3 on Thursday afternoon at the River Birch Tennis Facility. The Pirates are now 5-0 at home this season.

The Pirates put a point on the board first, with a win at the No. 1 duo's spot, Alisa Diercksen and Lisa Hofbauer defeated the Phoenix's Maria Paraja and Alex Konigev, 6-1. Elon, who had won four-consecutive matches coming in, answered right back with at the No. 3 doubles position with a 6-3 victory. The purple and gold would respond back in doubles play, with Hsia and Rettich securing the first point in a 7-6 win.

In singles competition, Elon jumped out quickly, securing wins at the No. 3 and 4 positions. Nastja Rettich secured the Pirates first point in solo competition with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Erica Braschi. Rettich now leads the Pirates with 13 wins so far this season.

The Phoenix would then secure their third point at the No. 5 slot, before ECU tied the match at three with Ho Chiao Hsia's 7-6, 6-4 win at the sixth spot. Lisa Hofbauer clinched the match with a 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 win over Elon's top-solo player Olivia Lucas.
