
Pirates Earn IWLCA Academic Award

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Coming off its first season of competition, the ECU women's lacrosse team earned a bevy of academic honors, including being named an IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad.

"I'm extremely proud of the hard work our players have put in on and off the field and I'm excited to be honored as a 2018 IWLCA Academic Honor Squad," said head coach Amanda Barnes. "I think this is a great start for our program academically."

In order to be named an IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad, the women's lacrosse team must have posted a 3.0 or higher team GPA for the 2017-18 academic year. ECU is one of 338 schools across Division I, II, III and NAIA to earn the honor and one of 103 Division I programs.

Along with the honor from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association, the Pirates had a pair of student-athlete's receive the ECU Chancellor's List Award. The team also had 15 Dean's List recipients and five Honor Roll recipients.

Overall, the team had 22 of its 27 members finish with over a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
