GREENVILLE, N.C. – After another tough tie on the road, the ECU women's soccer team returns home to host Davidson on Sunday afternoon. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 pm in Johnson Stadium.
Â
"We are really excited to be back at Johnson Stadium," said head coach Jason Hamilton. "We want to build off last weekend's win and be tough at home. We have to bring the excitement and energy that comes with being at home. Davidson is well coached and organized and will be tough to break down."
Â
ECU (1-0-2) remains unbeaten after three games this season, the most recent a 1-1 tie at No. 16 NC State. In that matchup, the Wolfpack took an early lead, scoring in the 15th minute. ECU tied the game in the 35th minute. Morgan Dewey's corner kick reached Chentay Warnes who headed across the goalmouth for Courtney Cash to score. Melanie Stiles made eight saves in goal for the Pirates to help hang on for the draw.
Â
"One of the hardest things as a coach is to make sure your team is ready to go after getting a result against a ranked team," said Hamilton. "You see it in every sport, every year. We have to come out ready to play against Davidson and not think we are better than we are based on our last game. Consistency is one of the qualities you see in a great team and that is what we want to become."
Â
Davidson comes into the weekend with a 1-1-0 record, falling 2-0 to Coastal Carolina and beating USC-Upstate 3-2 in overtime. The Wildcats will be playing on the road for the first time this weekend, traveling to play Gardner-Webb on Friday night before coming to Greenville for Sunday's match. Davidson was picked to finish in a tie for 12th in the A-10 preseason poll after a 2-14-3 record in 2017.
Â
"Davidson is a good team and has some quality players that will punish you if taken lightly," added Hamilton. Â Â
Â
ECU has historically dominated the rivalry between the two schools, winning all seven matchups and outscoring the Wildcats 21-4. Last season, ECU traveled to Davidson and left with a 2-1 win.
