GREENVILLE, N.C. – The ECU women's cross country team earned a regional ranking for the second-straight week, checking in at No. 15 in the Southeast Region according to a release by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Â
Before last week, the women had not been included in the poll since the 2013 season.
Â
"This is a credit to our ladies buying into our program from day one," head coach Josey Weaver said. "They work extremely hard and are hungry for more. It's great to see all their hard work paying off and they deserve every bit of success coming their way."
Â
ECU emerged victorious in its first meet of the season back on Sept. 1, winning the Carolina Challenge.
Â
Senior Grace Sullivan won the women's race in a time of 17:08. The Pirates ended up with 22 points to run away with the event while Clemson was second and host South Carolina third followed by Georgia Southern, Winthrop, Gardner-Webb, Coastal Carolina and South Carolina State. ECU had four of the top five scored finishers as freshmen Anna Bristle and Abby Yourkavitch, as well as junior Nuria Tillo-Prats, were third, fourth and fifth respectively.Â
Â
The Pirates are scheduled to compete again this weekend at the Bulldog Stampede on the campus of Wingate University.
