September 07, 2018 | Lacrosse
GREENVILLE, N.C. – Coming off the first season in program history, the ECU women's lacrosse will play three exhibitions, including one at home, during the fall season as announced by head coach Amanda Barnes on Friday.
Â
"I'm excited to welcome 12 freshmen to Greenville this fall," said Barnes. "We're looking forward to improving our skills and building on bigger-picture concepts in our fall season with both our returnees and newcomers. Our fall opponents will be a good mix of different styles and schemes of play for us to test ourselves against.Â
Â
ECU starts the spring season by traveling to the Virginia Tech Play Day on Sunday, Sept. 16. The Pirates will play a trio of games throughout the day, starting with a meeting with Davidson at 12:00 noon. The Pirates will also take on the host Hokies at 1:00 p.m., and Radford at 3:00 p.m.
Â
Fans will have a chance to see the Pirates take the field in Greenville on Friday, October 12. ECU will host Campbell for an exhibition starting at 3 p.m. The exact location of the exhibition will be announced at a later date. Â
Â
The Pirates round out the fall season by taking a trip down the road to Durham for the Duke Fall Play Day on October 27. Play starts at 8 a.m., on Saturday morning.
Â
The fall season will be the first chance for the Pirates to see the 18 returners play alongside the 12 newcomers as ECU prepares for the inaugural season of AAC lacrosse. In women's lacrosse, the American Athletic Conference consists of ECU, Cincinnati, Connecticut, Temple, Vanderbilt and the University of Florida. The conference schedule as well as the spring non-conference slate will be released later this fall.Â
