2019 Volleyball Spring Roster
GREENVILLE, N.C. – Marissa Harmon, a 6-1 setter who played her first two collegiate seasons at the University of Wyoming, has completed a grant-in-aid agreement to attend East Carolina University and compete for the volleyball program beginning in the spring of 2019 according to an announcement Wednesday by seventh-year head coach Julie Torbett.
Â
Harmon put together a stellar freshman season at Wyoming in 2017, culminating in Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year recognition and honorable mention all-conference honors.
Â
"We are really thrilled to add Marissa to the roster," Torbett said. "With her height and experience we can see her contributing right away. She already has a connection with former high school teammate Sydney Kleinman and she knows our returning setter Shelby Martin. It is nice to have her with us in the spring to build those relationships with the players."
Â
Harmon started in 30 of 31 matches and played in all 115 sets as a freshman for the Cowgirls. She became the fourth-ever Wyoming volleyball player to earn Freshman of the Year honors and the first since 2015. With 1,101 assists in her first season, Harmon became the first true freshman to lead the Cowgirls in assists since 2005. The Frisco, Texas native led the team in assists in the final 20 matches and 28 overall. She also had a team-high nine double-doubles.
Â
In terms of league statistics, Harmon ranked third in the MWC with 10.60 assists per set and was fifth in league with 23 service aces (0.34 saps). She closed out the regular season with ten kills at Fresno State and helped Wyoming to its first victory at Boise State in the last seven tries with a career-best 61 assists.
Â
As a sophomore, Harmon dished out 193 assists and collected 49 digs in 44 sets.
Â
Harmon lettered three years at Wakeland High School and was the team's Co-MVP during her senior season. She was a member of the ASC Nike Invitational All-Tournament team in addition to the TAVC 5A/6A Preseason All-Texas Team. Harmon was tabbed a 2016 Under Armour All-American nominee, a 2016 Prep Volleyball National Senior Player of the Year Finalist and Prep Volleyball High School All-American Highest Honorable Mention and an AVCA Phenom selection as well as a 2016 TGCA All-Star team member, three-time all-district selection, two-time all-state honoree and District Setter MVP (2015,2016).
Â
A strong performer in the classroom, Harmon was an Academic All-State selection twice. She led her team to a ninth-place finish at state as a junior and a fifth-place finish as a senior. In all, Harmon was a nine-year club volleyball player and five-time USAV Open medalist.
