
Forbrigd To Compete In Spirit International Amateur Golf Championship

TRINITY, Texas – East Carolina senior golfer Dorthea Forbrigd has been selected to compete in the 2019 Spirit International Golf Championship and will play on Team Norway at the event, which will be held Nov. 7-9 at the Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity, Texas. Forbrigd is the second player in program history to compete in the event following Nicoline Skaug, who also represented Team Norway in the 2014 Championships in Japan.

Forbrigd, who is ranked No. 90 by WAGR and No. 127 in the nation by Golfstat, closed out the fall portion of ECU's schedule posting a team-best 71.82 scoring average in four events. The Oslo, Norway native recorded four Top 20 finishes, which included defending her title at the 2019 Pirate Collegiate Classic where she carded a new tournament-low score of 210 (6-under par) for her third career win.

During her Pirate career, she has participated in 38 events claiming nine Top 5, 13 Top 10 and 24 Top 20 finishes. Currently she has the lowest career stroke average in school history (73.21) and holds two of the Top 3 single-season scoring averages in the Pirate annuals.

Players from 19 countries will compete at the event in four-player teams, with two men and two women representing each country. It is a 54-hole four-ball stroke play competition, with three concurrent competition categories: international team, men's team and women's team. Gold, silver and bronze commemorative medals are awarded to the top finishers in each competition.

Previous Spirit International competitors who now are professionals on the LPGA and PGA TOUR include Jordan Spieth, Francesco Molinari, Brandt Snedeker, Jason Day, Martin Kaymer, Viktor Hovland, Lexi Thompson, Bronte Law, Lorena Ochoa, Paula Creamer, Brooke Henderson and Maria Fassi. Spirit alumni have gone on to win more than 650 professional events, including 23 major championships.
The tournament is held at Whispering Pines Golf Club, located 80 miles north of Houston. The course is the No. 1 ranked course in Texas and among the top 100 courses in the nation.
