GREENVILLE, N.C. – After an 11-day layoff, the ECU men's tennis team returns to the court for a trip to William & Mary on Sunday afternoon.
Â
"We have had a nice break, but are looking forward to getting back after it," said head coach Shawn Heinchon. "We had a great match last year with William & Mary, barely losing 4-3. They typically have very strong doubles and are always a hard team for us to beat. This Sunday should be no different, but we're all looking forward to getting back at it."
Â
Â
ECU (11-3) started the season 10-1, but has lost two of its last three matches, including a 4-3 loss at North Florida. The Pirates will try to continue its strong road play, as that loss at North Florida was the first road loss in five tries for ECU. Five of the final seven matches of the year for the Pirates are away from home.
Â
Diogo Marques (17-10) and Wisse Jonker (17-8) both lead ECU in singles wins this season. During his freshman campaign, Marques is 5-4 on court one in singles and 2-1 on court two. Jonker has been dominant on court three, going 10-3. Javier Renones has been unbeatable during dual matches, going 10-0 in singles and 16-7 overall this season. Vlad Anghel has been steady on court two and is 14-10 this year. Also reaching double digit wins is Will Bissett who has an 11-7 record and is 7-1 in dual matches.
Â
In doubles, Austin Allen and Marques have a team-best 8-3 record and are 5-0 on court two. Jonker and Renones are 7-3 as a tandem, including 3-0 on the top court. Renones has also formed a standout partnership with Simon Labbe, teaming to go 6-1 together.
Â
William & Mary (0-11) is still looking for its first win of the season. The Tribe will take on George Washington on Friday to open the weekend before hosting ECU on Sunday. Sebastian Quiros leads William & Mary with a 15-12 singles record, but he is just 15-12 in dual matches. The Tribe especially struggle in doubles play, going just 6-22 (.214) in dual matches and have won the doubles point just twice this season.

First serve is scheduled for 12 noon. Fans can follow the live scoring here. Â Â Â Â
