LeGar Named AAC Midfielder Of The Week
March 05, 2019 | Lacrosse
GREENVILLE, N.C. – Off to the best start in program history, the ECU women's lacrosse team had another player honored as Nicole LeGar was named AAC Midfielder of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon.
Â
"Nicole's presence on the draw was huge for us this past weekend," said head coach Amanda Barnes Moore. "She has really grown her game, after making the transition to the midgield this season and is an emerging leader for us on the field."
Â
LeGar was instrumental in a 16-8 win over Saint Francis last weekend. The sophomore midfielder was dominant at the draw circle, winning 10 of ECU's 14 draw contols. LeGar also added three goals for her second hat trick of the season. She has now scored multiple goals in all five of ECU's wins this season.
Â
Along with LeGar, freshman Camryn Pennypacker was honored by the conference, earning a spot on the league's weekly Honor Roll. Pennypacker stuffed the stat sheet against the Red Flash. She finished the win with a pair of goals, four draw controls and a caused turnover. It was the second straight week Pennypacker was honored by the American after being chosen as the Midfielder of the Week last week.
Â
LeGar will be the fourth ECU player to win a weekly award and the fifth total honor for the Pirate. After an opening 2-0 weekend, Christina White and Hannah Rzempoluch were named the conference's Defensive Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week respectively. White was again named Defensive Player of the Week last week along with Pennypacker being named Midfielder of the Week. Brittany Borchers earned a spot on the weekly Honor Roll after the opening weekend as well. Â
Â
ECU will have its first midweek game of the season on Wednesday. The Pirates will be in Lynchburg, Va., to take on Liberty. The game is slated to begin at 4 p.m., on Wednesday afternoon.
