PALM COAST, Fla. – The ECU women's golf team finished fourth out of 10 teams at the 2019 American Athletic Conference Championship, played Sunday through Tuesday at Hammock Beach Resort on the par-72, 6,276-yard Conservatory Course.
Â
As a team, ECU finished with a three-round score of 24-over-par 888 (296-299-293) giving the Pirates their fourth consecutive Top-4 finish at the conference championship led by Dorthea Forbrigd, who tied for third-place at 4-under-par 212 (73-72-67).
Â
Forbrigd carded a third round-best 5-under-par Tuesday afternoon, matching her best score in relation to par this season and moved up three spots in the final standings after beginning the day in sixth-place.
Â
"We're disappointed to have finished fourth in the conference tournament, but proud of the hard work and effort from our team," ECU Head Coach Kevin Williams said. "Dorthea played really well and had one of the best years in the history of our program. I'm very proud of the standard she sets for our team each day in practice and competition."
Â
Houston won its third consecutive team title with a 54-hole score of 13-under-par 851 (287-284-280), besting second-place UCF at 17-over-par (294-297-290=881) by 30 strokes. Memphis finished in third-place at 21-over-par 885 (304-292-289).
Â
The Cougars' Leonie Harm earned individual medalist honors with a three-round score of 8-under-par 208 (69-72-67). Elizabeth Moon of UCF finished as runner-up with a final tally of 6-under-par 210 (70-71-69).
Â
ECU sophomore Kathryn Carson tied for 19th at 7-over-par 223 (72-75-76) with senior teammate Carley Cox tying for 21st at 8-over-par 224 (75-77-72). Senior Kate Law carded a three-day total of 16-over-par 232 (76-78-78) to finish 40th with junior Grace Yatawara placing 47th at 27-over-par 242 (85-75-82).
Â
The Pirates will have to wait until April 24 to see if they are selected to participate in NCAA Regional action. The field will be announced live on the Golf Channel at 5:30 p.m. (ET).
Â
"We are squarely on the bubble for an at-large bid," Williams explained. "We did not play well as a team the last three events. I'm hopeful we have some more golf to play as a team. If not, I'm confident that Dorthea will receive an individual spot."
