Pirates Named IWLCA Academic Honor Squad

GREENVILLE, N.C. – For the second consecutive season, the ECU women's lacrosse team was named an IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad.

"Our players have challenged themselves in their course work this past season and we're happy to see our team recognized as well as see Amy and MacKell be honored individually for their efforts," said head coach Amanda Barnes Moore. "The balance of academics and athletics for student-athletes takes commitment and focus and we're proud to see those characteristics exhibited in our program in our first two years. Our athletes are fortunate at ECU to have a wide variety of majors, minors, and certificates to pursue and we truly believe it is one of the many reasons the academic experience here is such a positive one for our players."

In order to qualify as an Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Academic Honor Squad, the women's lacrosse team must have posted a 3.0 or higher team GPA for the academic year. ECU is one of 312 schools across Division I, II, III and NAIA to earn the honor and one of 94 Division I teams. ECU also earned the award following the 2017-18 season, which was the inaugural campaign for the Pirates.

Along with the team award, a pair of Pirates earned a spot on the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll. Amy Jarvis and MacKell Schultes earned the award for the first time in their careers. Jarvis is majoring in Public Health while Schultes is enrolled in the College of Business. In order to be recognized on the honor roll, student-athletes must be a junior, senior or graduate student and have earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater.

Overall, ECU finished with a cumulative team GPA of 3.39 during the spring semester. Along with their work in the classroom, the Pirates had a 5-12 record on the field, a three-win improvement over the team's inaugural season. It was highlighted by Ally Stanton's selection to the All-AAC Second-Team.
