WOODBURY, Minn. – The East Carolina women's golf team opened the 2019-20 season with a second-place finish at the Minnesota Invitational by posting a 36-hole score of 580 at the par 72, 6-479-yard Prestwick Golf Club. The two-day event, originally scheduled for 54 holes, was reduced to 36 after lighting suspended play Monday afternoon.

Under first year head coach CC Buford, the Pirates (13-1) claimed their third career Top 2 finish at the event following the team title in 2014 and a runner-up finish in 2015. This year they posted a 4-over par 580 (294-286) finishing three shots behind tournament champion Kentucky (577/1-over).

Senior Siranon Shoomee posted a career-low finish claiming a share of third after posting a score of 138 (6-under par) to lead the Pirates. Her second round 68 (4-under) tied her career-low round, which was established at the 2017 American Athletic Conference Championships (second round). Shoomee stood among the tournament leaders in par 3 scoring (t1st/-3 under), par 4 scoring (t7th/even), par 5 scoring (t7th/-3 under), total birdies (t7th/8) and total pars (t10th/26).

Junior Dorthea Forbrigd earned her 12th career Top 10 placement after carding a 1-under par 143 (72-71) for a share of seventh place. She registered 29 pars which stood second in the field to go along four birdies. Participating in her first collegiate event, freshman Caroline Hermes (77-73) and junior Kathryn Carson (76-74) finished tied for 41st after shooting a 6-over 150. Rounding out the Pirates roster was senior Grace Yatawara who shot a 7-over 151 (76-75) for a share of 46th.
