Stanton Named Preseason All-AAC

GREENVILLE, N.C. – After leading the ECU lacrosse team in points last season, Ally Stanton was named to the American Athletic Conference Preseason All-Conference Team, as announced by the league office on Thursday.

"Ally was really instrumental in our offense this past season and will continue to do so," said head coach Amanda Moore. "She's an extremely dynamic attacker. Where Ally has stepped and where we've seen her improve this past fall is with her voice. She's been a leader vocally not only for our offense, but with her off ball presence.

Stanton returns for her junior year as the top scorer in ECU's brief history. The Bridgewater, N.J., native has racked up 68 points (48 goals, 20 assists) over her first two seasons in Greenville, leading the Pirates in both seasons.

She set a new school record during her sophomore campaign, tallying 39 points on 26 goals and 13 assists. Stanton was named to the All-AAC Second Team at the end of the 2019 season, becoming the first ECU player to be named to the league's all-conference team.

Stanton scored at least one goal in 14 of ECU's 17 games last season, netting a hat trick on four occasions. She was instrumental in ECU's 5-1 start, rattling off 18 points on 10 goals and eight assists. She was ECU's deadliest player on free position shots as well, scoring 10 times off restarts.

Along with the preseason all-conference team, the league released the preseason coaches' poll. Florida was chosen as the preseason favorite, earning five first place votes. Cincinnati earned the sixth and final first place votes, with the Bearcats checking in at number two. Vanderbilt and Temple, both of whom reached the AAC Championship a year ago, checked in at three and four respectively, while UConn and ECU were placed fifth and sixth.

The Pirates have started practice for the 2020 campaign and their season will get underway on February 7 at Furman. ECU will be looking to improve in its third season in program history after going 5-12 last year, a three-win improvement over the team's inaugural season.
