Pirates Bounce Back With 4-0 Win At Hofstra

BETHPAGE, N.Y. – After a narrow loss against St. John's on Friday night, the ECU men's tennis team gets its first road win of the season by dominating Hofstra 4-0 on Saturday night at Sportime.
ECU improves to 5-1 on the season while Hofstra falls to 2-2.
After dropping the doubles point against St. John's, a point that proved critical, the Pirates made sure they took the 1-0 lead on Saturday night. Diogo Marques and Federico Masetti beat Shawn Jackson and Ostap Kovalenko 6-1 on court three. Javier Renones and Wisse Jonker followed it with a 6-2 victory over Jonathan Mahrt Guyou and Yusuke Nishitani on court two.
In singles play, the Pirates took five of the six first sets to widen the gap between themselves and the Pride. ECU got its second point when Masetti finished off a 6-4, 6-2 win over Guyou on court six. ECU got another point after Jonker cruised through a 6-2, 6-0 win over Nishitani on court five. Jonker and Masetti are now a combined 9-2 on courts five and six.
The match was clinched when Simon Labbe got his team-high 15th win, beating Kovalenko 6-2, 7-5 (7-5) on court three.
The Pirates have one more match on their road trip through New York and New Jersey. ECU will finish the trip at the New Jersey Institute of Technology with first serve scheduled for 12 noon.
